121 | Isabelle Tonks Thacker is the daughter of Rachel V.Tonks and William Thacker. She married John Ephraim Mouton March 23, 1882 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had eight children: Charlotte Elizabeth Moulton, John Thomas Moulton, Frederick William Moulton, Addison Charles Moulton, Deyce Bell Moulton, Albert Thacker Moulton, Ernest Dewey Moulton and Ethel Fern Moulton. Isabell and John took in nephew Claude Merlin Thacker to live in their home for six and a half years. They already had seven children at that time. John and Isabell had built their brick home in Heber City. Both Isabell and John were active in church and civic affairs. He belonged to the Dramatic society and took part in many plays. When Heber 2nd Ward Chapel and the Amusement Hall was being built, he was head of the finance committee. He was Mayor of Heber City. He was very kind hearted and generous. Isabell was ambitious. She worked for people in their homes to help the family income. She bought the first sewing machine the family owned. She paid her own tuition and went to school, later becoming one of the first school teachers in Daniel. The family was very sociable and talented in music. They loved to sing and often met with other families for an evening of music. Isabell was an attractive young lady with light naturally wavy hair and blue eyes, and a happy disposition. | THACKER, Isabella (I374)

124 | John Ephraim Moulton is the son of Sarah Denton and Thomas Moulton. He married Isabelle Tonks Thacker March 23, 1882 in Salt Lake City, Utah. John was very industrious and worked with several other men in the community making bricks to build their homes. ----------------------------------- On Wednesday morning of this week the people of Heber were shocked to hear about the death of their mayor; John E. Moulton, as a result of complications starting with pneumonia. The funeral services will be held at the Stake Tabernacle today (Friday) at 1 o'clock. Mr. Moulton is known by all and is highly respected. He has filled many positions of trust both in church and in civil life and has acquitted himself well. From notes given us by the family we produce the following: John Ephraim Moulton was born at Heber City, Utah on September 16th 1860, was married to Isabell Tonks Thacker on March 23rd, 1882 and to this union were born eight children, seven of whom survive him. Viz. Mrs. Charlotte Giles, John T. Moulton, Addison C. Moulton, Deyce Bell Moulton, Albert T. Moulton, Ernest Dewey Moulton and Ethel Fern Moulton. Besides children and wife he leaves brothers and sisters, Joseph Moulton and James Heber Moulton of Heber, Charlotte Carrell of Grayson, Utah, Elizabeth Hicken of Heber, Charles Alma Moulton of Victor, Idaho. These together with many other relatives and friends mourn what seems to be the untimely death of the departed. His illnes was of brief duration. On Wednesday night of last week he attended the show and after returning home and retiring took a chill. He was carefully nursed from that time until he died but without lasting results. Bright's Disease took it's part in weakening the system and when the fatal pneumonia set in, friends and relatives feared the result though they remained faithful til the last. Tha family have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement. My thanks goes to Lynn W. Johnson for this obituary. | MOULTON, John Ephriam (I96)

130 | MONUMENT: "In Grateful Remembrance of John Kunz II Approximately 200 Feet east of this site, the first house on the townsite of Bern was built in 1875 by John Kunz II. John Kunz II was born 20 January 1823 in Zwischen Flueh near Diemtigen, Canton Bern Switzerland. He married Rosina Knutti and they were baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on 27 February 1869 by Willard B. Richards. Accompanied by his wife and eight of their ten children, (the others came later), he emigrated from Switzerland on 6 July 1870. They arrived in Cache Valley, Utah in August 1870 and came to Ovid, Idaho in June 1871. Bern was first settled by John Kunz II and his numerous family in 1876. He was the first President of the L.D. S. Branch established in Bern in 1878. The Bern Ward was organized in 1890. He accepted the call of President Brigham Young to make cheese and he made the first cheese in Bear Lake County at Ovid. The cheese was made in a kettle which the people in Ovid had used for making soap. John Kunz II died in Bern on 16 February 1890. He and his wife are the parents of ten children, one hundred and twenty seven grandchildren and they are the common ancestors of the Kunz Families originating in Bern. They are buried in the Cemetery in Ovid." This monument is located on the north side of the road in the middle of Bern, Bear Lake County, Idaho. It was erected by Lyman Milton Kunz and Family. ---------------------------------------------------------- FROM THE BOOK, PIONEERS AND PROMINENT MEN OF UTAH, "EARLY CHURCH HISTORY" John Kunz II and Rosina Knutti arrived in Utah on August 5, 1870 as converts to the LDS Church. FAMILY RECORDS show 2 wives - Rosina Knutti and Catherine Zemp "MY MOTHER'S FATHER'S FAMILY: JOHN KUNZ II AND HIS WIFE, ROSINA KNUTTI" BY SHEILA RACHEL KOEVEN MESERVY: It is alleged that John Kunz II, my great grandfather, (a respected Simmental Cheese maker) stipulated at the time of his conversion that he would be baptized only upon condition that he not be asked to emigrate from Switzerland to Zion. Although he had vigorously opposed joining the Church, John II experienced a change in spirit and became a staunch supporter of the doctrines which were at first so new to him. Similarly, he and his wife, Rosina, soon felt the spirit of gathering and began making plans to emigrate. At the beginning of July 1870, 47 year old John Kunz II bade goodye to his aged parents, to his married son and daughter, all of whom were members of the Church, and to his sister and brother, and their families, as well as other relatives, neighbors, and friends. My grandfather, William Kunz, born 5 Dec. 1860, was baptized at 9 years of age prior to leaving Switzerland with his parents. In July 1870, John Kunz II and his wife, Rosina Knutti, and 8 single children left the "Moos" farm at Riedern, Switzerland to emigrate to Utah, having previously converted from the Reformed Church in the community of Diemtigen, Switzerland, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They were soon followed by other relatives who had been baptized in the cold waters of the creek 'Maeniggrundback' just below the farmhouses November 15, 1868; and some Feb. 27, 1869 in the icy waters of Kirelback creek. They spent the first winter in Logan, Utah before moving on up to Bern, Idaho (by Montpelier) in response to a call by Brigham Young to establish the dairy industry there. | KUNZ, Johannes or John II (I128)
